Local donations make a difference to Lowndes County Children’s Policy Council
The Lowndes County Children’s Policy Council through their 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, Lowndes County Partnership for Children, Inc., was awarded a $5,000.00 grant from Cornerstone Community Outreach, $500 from Commissioner Paul Sloane, and $500 from Hayneville Telephone Company to support their year-round recreation program, Lowndes County Youth Count. The grants will be used to purchase equipment and provide sports and mentoring opportunities for youth ages 3 to 16. For more information on this program, please contact Pauline Luvene at 233-8484. The Lowndes County Children’s Policy Council through a partnership with Lowndes County/Auburn Extension also received a $1,000 grant from Cornerstone Community Outreach, $1,500 grant from The Black Belt Community Foundation, and $500 from BancorpSouth Bank for a new program to provide leadership training in the county, Leadership Lowndes County. The Lowndes County Children’s Policy Council’s mission is to identify needs, resources and the availability of services to effectively address problems and establish programs to enrich the lives of children and families through collaboration of agencies and individuals serving Lowndes County. The Council is also mandated by the state legislature and is required by law to submit an annual county needs assessment to the Alabama Department of Children’s Affairs.
