Policy Council
June 18, 2008
District Judge Terri Bozeman Lovell called the Lowndes County Children’s Policy Council meeting to order at 10:00 a.m. on June 18, 2008, at the Lowndes County Law Library, Hayneville, Alabama.
The meeting was attended by Judge Terri Bozeman Lovell, District Judge, Mel Brackman, Lutheran Ministries; Gloria Jean Canty, SKIP, Inc.; James Collins, ABC Board; Sam Cooper, BancorpSouth Bank; Daniel Davis, ABC Board; Richard Engle, Alabama Department of Youth Services, Renee Goodwin, Family Sunshine Center; Rebecca Harrison, Family Sunshine Center; Katina James, STEP Program; Liletta Jenkins, DCA, Rebecca Leadingham, Montgomery Area Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy, LaShawn Long, Mental Health; Mary Anne Martin, Alabama Character Initiative; Aaron McCall, FIAOM; Audrey Peterson, Lowndes County DHR, Gloria Simmons, Family Service Center of Lowndes County; Bennie Stanford, Edgewood Tutorial; Patricia Stiles, Lowndes County Head Start; Shakirah Tajuddin, Lowndes County DHR; Rachel Waters, DHR Director.
Judge Lovell welcomed members, followed by introductions by each present, and then approval of the minutes from April 2, 2008. The members then participated in a turn the curve exercise to prepare for the 2008 Needs Assessment. Statistics and data of Lowndes County were distributed to the members and they then voted on the three outcomes that would be selected for this year. The members completed two outcomes prior to lunch being served.
The members enjoyed lunch catered by CC’s Café which included baked chicken, wild rice, green beans, rolls and banana pudding. The working lunch was enjoyed by all. Concluding the lunch the members discussed the final outcome and reviewed the three outcomes to be submitted to the Alabama Department of Children’s Affairs. Judge Lovell thanked the members for their participation and continued efforts to improve the lives of children and families in Lowndes County.
