Children’s Policy Council 

 

June 3, 2009

  

District Judge Terri Bozeman Lovell called the Lowndes County Children’s Policy Council meeting to order at 2:00 p.m. on June 3, 2009, at the Lowndes County Law Library, Hayneville, Alabama.

 

The meeting was attended by Judge Terri Bozeman Lovell, District Judge, Mel Brackman, Lutheran Ministries; Debra Caldwell-Bush, Chief Juvenile Probation Officer, James Collins, ABC Board;  Sam Cooper, BancorpSouth Bank; Angela Daniel, AllKids; Richard Engle, Alabama Department of Youth Services, Lakeisha Griffin, Lowndes County Helping Families Initiative; Katina James, STEP Program; Liletta Jenkins, DCA,  Vera Larkin, Children’s Rehabilitation Services; Mary Anne Martin, Alabama Character Initiative; Ternisha Miles, Assistant District Attorney; Audrey Peterson, Lowndes County DHR, Gloria Simmons, Family Service Center of Lowndes County; Shakirah Tajuddin, Lowndes County DHR; Stacy Taylor, ABC Board; Rachel Waters, DHR Director; Chip Williams, Lowndes County Sheriff.

 

Judge Lovell welcomed members, followed by introductions by each present, and then approval of the minutes from April 1, 2009. 

 

Gloria Simmons, Director of the Family Service Center of Lowndes County, gave a presentation of the programs offered at the center.  She also made an announcement about the Family Guidance Center’s annual celebration that benefits the center and the upcoming College Day. 

 

Lakeisha Griffin, Director of the Lowndes County Helping Families Initiative, gave an update on the program and the success the program is seeing since its implementation in January of this year. 

 

Liletta Jenkins, field director for the Department of Children’s Affairs, discussed the 2009 Needs Assessment Process to the members.  The members then divided into three groups to address the three priorities submitted by the Lowndes County CPC in the 2008 Needs Assessment.  Following the breakout sessions, each group gave a report as to the needed areas to update on the 2009 Needs Assessment. 

 

Judge Lovell thanked the members for their participation and continued efforts to improve the lives of children and families in Lowndes County.
