Children’s Policy Council
June 6, 2007
District Judge Terri Bozeman called the Lowndes County Children’s Policy Council meeting to order at 3:00 p.m. on June 6, 2007, at the Lowndes County Law Library, Hayneville, Alabama.
The meeting was attended by Judge Terri Bozeman Lovell, District Judge, Chacolby Burns-Johnson, Family Service Center of Hayneville; Debra Caldwell-Bush, Lowndes County Chief Juvenile Probation Officer; Lasaundra Chappell, Montgomery Area Mental Health; James Collins, ABC Board, Sam Cooper, BancorpSouth Bank; Daniel Davis, ABC Board; Richard Engle, Alabama Department of Youth Services, Sylvester Hardy, Lowndes County Youth Count; Monica Jackson, Children’s Rehabilitation Services; Katina James, STEP Program; Liletta Jenkins, DCA, Vera Larkin, Children’s Rehabilitation Services; Rebecca Leadingham, Montgomery Area Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy, Loretta Latines, Ark of Love; Angela Martin, Board of Education; Arthur Nelson, Lowndes County Head Start; Audrey Peterson, Lowndes County DHR, Debra Reeves-Howard, Selma Career Link, Shakirah Tajuddin, Lowndes County DHR; Dan Therrien, Community Volunteer, Sabrina Townsend, Ark of Love; Joseph Trimble, ASU Abstinence Program; Frank Winkler, SAYNO.
Judge Lovell welcomed members, followed by introductions by each present, and then approval of the minutes from April 4, 2007. The members present then divided into committees to work on the 2007 Needs Assessment. Six committees were formed for the following: Health, Safety, Education, Early Care and Education, Economic Security, and Parental Involvement. Each of the five committees discussed issues related to Parental Involvement and Skills. The committees submitted written reports regarding their section of the needs assessment.
The committees were advised that a draft would be emailed to them with a copy of the password for review on the DCA website within the next week. Members were instructed that they would then have one week to make needed changes or corrections so that the report could be timely filed with the Department of Children’s Affairs.
The next meeting was scheduled for August 1, 2007, at 3:00 p.m.
The meeting adjourned at 4:45 p.m.
